the south pointe story

South Pointe's story began in the fall of 1991 when a handful of people began meeting together in a small building on the south side of Abilene. The church began as an independent body of believers and was called Heritage Baptist Church. From that humble beginning, the church grew and moved into its present facilities on Buffalo Gap Road in December of 1995.

South Pointe Church emerged from the efforts and prayers of those who had dared to ask the question, "What do the people of our community need?" A commitment was made to focus on the hurts and needs of all people regardless of their religious background or lack thereof. Denominational labels were set aside and

negative church traditions were removed. In their place, a new vision came into being. South Pointe Church flourished, fueled by the hope of being something different, something uncommon. Our greatest desire is to share the uncommon love of an uncommon Savior in a common world.

South Pointe, the uncommon church, creates an exciting and authentic sense of community in each service. The worship is vibrant and inspiring; the messages are relevant and targeted towards the heartfelt needs of everyday people.

This is our story...now we hope to learn more about yours. It is our prayer that one day the two will intersect to become a part of an even greater story...His-story.
